Koh Samui is one of Thailand’s top tourist destinations and with white sandy beaches, shimmering blue seas and a laid-back atmosphere, it’s easy to see why. The majority of the boutique hotels listed on this site are beach-front properties so it’s just moments from bedroom to beach.
The two longest and most popular beaches on the island are Chaweng and Lamai. For a more secluded option, consider Bophut with fine views out to the neighbouring island of Koh Pha Ngan. Alternatively, the beautiful bay of Choeng Mon tucked serenely away in the north-eastern tip of Koh Samui is also highly recommended.
Samui island is the third largest island in Thailand (after Phuket and Ko Chang). The Thai word for island is ‘Koh’ which can also be written as ‘Ko’. Located in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is famous for its coconut palms and beautiful beaches.
High season and low season
Generally speaking, accommodation on Koh Samui is charged at three different rates according to the season and the demand. The highest rates are often applied over the peak season from mid-December to mid-January. The high season is normally classed as mid-January to the end of April with other months falling into the low season category. If you are planning on visiting Koh Samui over the Christmas and New Year period, we would advise booking your hotel at least two or three months in advance.
